Gospel Foundation (Philemon 1-7)
Understand the gospel’s power for reconciliation!
- Rooted in grace 1-3
God gives grace for the offender.
- GO (Matthew 5:23-24) – take responsibility
God gives grace for the offended.
- GO (Matthew 18:15) – lovingly confront
God gives grace for the mediator.
- GO (Galatians 6:1-2) – gently speak up
- Characterized by love 4-5
Prayer is key to cultivating and expressing love!
Without love, forgiveness is impossible!
- Focused on the offense, not the relationship
- Caught up by circumstances, not character
What about slavery?
- The gospel works radical change!
- Philemon is challenged to love a slave.
- Growing in faith 6-7
