A Prayer for Our Church

Thank you, Lord, for our All Nations Praise last Sunday at Grace Baptist Church, in which you were honored, and your Word challenged us all to be continually praising you, in a way that would influence the lost world around us to know the good news of Jesus!  Thank you for calling us out to be instruments in your hands, through which you would show the world your love and truth.  Lord, we believe… help our unbelief!  Help us to remember this call and not to forget!  Help us to be doers of the Word, and not hearers only!  Help us to see evangelism not simply as a good idea to be talked about, but a natural daily response to who you are!

Father, we know that we are helpless and hopeless apart from you.  You are our sovereign Creator, the one who carefully designed us so that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.  You are the one who works all things together for our good, the God of the impossible, the God who cannot lie, the God who is love, the God who is faithful and just, the God who is good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy, the God who gives every good and perfect gift, and the God who accomplishes all his purposes.

We are grateful for your Word, which is eternal truth, which reveals your character and will to us.  Thank you, dear Father, for entrusting us as stewards of your message, the good news which is your power to salvation to everyone who believes.  Help us to be faithful!  Thank you for entrusting us with your Word, which will not return empty, which is living and active, which is breathed by you and profitable, that we may be thoroughly equipped for the work that you have called us to do.  Help us to be faithful!  Thank you for empowering us with your Holy Spirit, that we would be led to understand truth and respond with a pursuit of holiness and a burden for people’s salvation.  Help us to be faithful!

Lord, we want so deeply to be significant, for our lives to matter, and to hear you say to each of us, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”  How we dread the possibility of wasting this life that you have given to us!  Lord, help us to abide in Jesus, experiencing the eternal life that is knowing you, and Jesus, who you sent.  Help us to remember, to be acutely aware and always conscious of your great love and truth displayed in the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection on our behalf!  Help us to be moved to anguish for the damnation of the lost, and moved to urgency for the proclamation of the gospel, always ready to give an answer to all who ask us a reason for our hope!  Help us to be bold and courageous, ever loving yet ever truthful, to look people in the eyes with the compassionate heart of Jesus, and to speak into their hearts with your penetrating Word!  And may we know that no matter the cost, it will be worth it all when we see you.  We love you Lord!

Amen!  Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever!  Amen!
