The Wounded Savior

Reflections on the cross: 1 Corinthians 15:3, 1 Peter 2:24, Hebrews 12:2, Philippians 2:8, Colossians 2:14, 1:20, 1 Corinthians 1:18, 1:23, 2:2, Galatians 6:14

Hope in Jesus’ finished work on the cross!

  1. Jesus really is Messiah 17-24

“King of the Jews” referred to a future king from David’s line, the Messiah.
They understood Jesus’ claims to be King, Messiah, and God.
Jesus fulfills Psalm 22, a messianic psalm portraying suffering and rejection, and the Lord’s reign!

  1. Jesus really was lifted up 25-30

Jesus was lifted up on the cross in judgment and glory! (Isaiah 52:13, John 1:14, 12:31–33, 17:1)
Jesus’ compassion is still prominent!
Jesus’ thirst:

  • Fulfills Scripture (Psalm 22:15, 69:21)
  • Is longing for the Father (Psalm 42:1, 63:1, John 4:14)
  1. Jesus really was dead 31-42

There was no accidental survival of Jesus!
Scripture fulfillments show that this is God’s plan!
Jesus died as the Passover Lamb. (John 1:29, Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12)
Jesus’ impact has reached unexpected followers!

NOW WHAT?

  • Be humbled – all the wrath you deserved was poured out on Jesus!
  • Be thankful – greater love has no one than this!
  • Be moved – Jesus bought you for a purpose!
  • Hope in Jesus’ finished work on the cross!
